About Allyson

Allyson Clay grew up in Canada, Holland and Italy, living in Rome for thirteen years. She currently lives in Vancouver and teaches at the School for Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University. She has a BFA in Painting from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax, and a MFA in Painting from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver.
Clay uses a broad range of material approaches in her practice including painting, installation, photographs, text works, and video.
The enclosures, pathways and permeabilities of the spaces and places of the affective city are investigated through video, text, installation work and painting.
Clay has exhibited internationally and her work belongs to many Canadian and international public and private collections. These include the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Vancouver Art Gallery, and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Pirandello Museum in Sicily and in the collection of the City of Perugia.
She has been the beneficiary of many awards including two Senior Artist Grants from the Canada Council, the Mexico/Canada/USA artist exchange residency, and the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Residency Program in Italy.
